Privacy Policy

Privacy by design
Privacy is a core design choice in Groove. Playlists are hosted directly on participant devices, not on Groove servers. We intentionally do not create Groove accounts, operate a Playlist database, collect analytics, use advertising identifiers or advertising SDKs, perform cross-app tracking, or receive remote diagnostic reports.
Our privacy commitment
Groove is designed to keep only the data needed to run the app on participating devices. We do not retain your Playlist history on a Groove server because Groove has no Playlist server infrastructure.
Data stored on devices
Groove stores Playlist names, nicknames, queue activity, Playlist history, playlists, and a temporary guest identifier on participating devices. The host’s music-provider tokens are stored with operating-system secure storage. Guests never receive the host’s provider credentials.
Data shared with participants
Joining a Playlist shares the information needed to operate it directly with nearby participants. This may include the queue, playlist information, song requests, nicknames, and Playlist history. Groove does not send this information through a Groove server.
iCloud
Groove automatically keeps the local Playlist library backed up in private iCloud Drive when iCloud is available. Apple associates that copy with your Apple Account and processes it under Apple’s terms and privacy policy. Groove does not receive the backup, your Apple Account identity, or a copy of your Playlist data.
Music providers
The host connects directly to Apple Music for authorization, catalog search, and playback. Apple processes those requests under its own terms and privacy policy and may associate them with the host’s Apple Account.
Permissions
Camera access is used only to scan a Playlist QR code; images are processed on-device and are not stored by Groove. Bluetooth and Local Network access enable nearby device connections. Groove does not request Location Services or use nearby connections to determine precise location.
Retention and deletion
Playlist data remains on participating devices and in the private iCloud copy until it is deleted from them. Copies kept by others remain under their control.
Security
Groove relies on operating-system security for local credentials and encrypted nearby connections where provided by the platform. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Keep your device secured and join only Playlists you trust.
Your choices
You may decline Camera, Bluetooth, or Local Network access, disconnect Apple Music, leave a Playlist, or delete data from your device and iCloud Drive. Some choices prevent nearby joining or playback features from working.
Children
Groove is not directed to children under 13. Users must meet the minimum age required in their region and by their connected music provider.
